01Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how LegalSaathi ("the App", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and discloses information when you use the application. It applies to all users of the App distributed via the Google Play Store. By installing or using LegalSaathi, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
LegalSaathi is developed and maintained by [Developer: JATIN KUMAR], based in [Delhi India].
02Nature of the Service & Legal Disclaimer
LegalSaathi provides general legal information derived from publicly available Indian statutes (such as the Indian Penal Code, Consumer Protection Act, Rent Control legislation, and the Information Technology Act). It does not provide legal advice, does not create an attorney-client relationship, and is not a substitute for consultation with a licensed advocate. Outputs generated by the App may be incomplete, outdated, or inapplicable to your specific circumstances. You should independently verify any information before relying on it and consult a qualified lawyer for matters requiring legal representation or case-specific advice.
03Information We Collect
3.1 Information you provide directly
| Data type | Purpose | Where it is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Query text you type into the chat (e.g. legal questions) | Processed to generate a relevant response | Transmitted to Google's Gemini API for processing; conversation history retained locally on your device |
| App preferences (language, theme) | Personalize app behavior | Stored locally on your device only |
| Conversation / chat history | Let you revisit past queries (History screen) | Stored locally on your device in an on-device database; not transmitted to our servers, because the App does not currently operate any backend server |
3.2 Information collected automatically
The current version of LegalSaathi does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs (e.g. Firebase Analytics, AdMob, Crashlytics). Standard network metadata (such as IP address) may be visible to Google as the operator of the Gemini API and to Google Play services as the app distribution platform, governed by their respective privacy policies (Section 5). Should we add analytics, crash reporting, or advertising in a future release, this Policy will be updated in advance and, where required by law, your consent will be obtained.
3.3 Information we do not collect
- We do not require account creation, sign-in, or any personal identifiers such as name, email, or phone number to use core features.
- We do not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, calendar, or SMS.
- We do not collect financial, health, or biometric information.
04How We Use Information
- To process your queries and generate informational responses grounded in the App's legal reference material.
- To maintain your local chat history and app preferences for continuity between sessions.
- To diagnose and fix technical issues if and when you voluntarily report them (e.g. via support email).
- To comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to third parties for marketing purposes.
05Third-Party Service Providers
LegalSaathi relies on the following third-party infrastructure to function:
| Provider | Role | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Google LLC — Gemini API | Processes your query text to generate informational responses | The text of your query at the time it is submitted. Refer to Google's API Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for how Google processes this data. |
| Google Play Services / Google Play Store | App distribution, updates, and (if applicable) crash diagnostics provided by the Play Console | Governed by Google Play's own privacy disclosures |
We do not control how these third parties independently process data once received, and you are encouraged to review their respective privacy policies.
06Data Storage, Retention & Deletion
- On-device storage: Chat history and preferences are stored in a local database on your device and persist until you clear them via Settings → Clear History, or until you uninstall the App.
- Bundled legal corpus: The reference legal text and associated vector embeddings used to ground responses are bundled with the App at install time and do not contain any user data.
- Server-side retention: The current version of LegalSaathi (V1) does not operate a backend server and does not persist your queries on infrastructure controlled by us. Query text is transmitted directly to Google's Gemini API for processing; retention on Google's side is governed by Google's own data retention policies.
- Deletion: You may delete all locally stored data at any time by clearing app data/cache through Android system settings or by uninstalling the App.
07Data Security
We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the data processed, including transmission of query data over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections to third-party APIs. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
08International Data Transfers
Because query text is processed by Google's Gemini API, your data may be transmitted to and processed on servers located outside India, including in jurisdictions with different data protection standards. By using the App, you acknowledge this cross-border transfer for the purpose of generating responses to your queries.
09Children's Privacy
LegalSaathi is not directed at children under the age of 18 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
10Your Rights
If you are located in India, you may have rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), including the right to access, correct, and request erasure of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. If you are located in the European Economic Area, you may have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); if located in California, you may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA. Because most data relevant to your use of LegalSaathi is stored locally on your own device, you can exercise most of these rights directly by clearing app data or uninstalling the App. For data processed by third parties (Section 5), please refer to their respective rights-request mechanisms, or contact us and we will assist where feasible.
11App Permissions
| Permission | Reason requested |
|---|---|
| Internet access | Required to send your query text to the Gemini API and receive a generated response. The App does not function without network connectivity. |
LegalSaathi does not request permissions for contacts, location, camera, microphone, storage, or telephony.
12Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, features, or legal requirements. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above, and where required by law, you will be notified within the App prior to the change taking effect.
13Governing Law
This Policy is governed by the laws of India. Any disputes arising in connection with this Policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at [Delhi].
